Security forces have launched a manhunt for the gunmen who kidnapped Lieutenant Cynthia Akor, a Nigerian Navy officer attached to the Defence Headquarters, along with two other individuals in the Mpape area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The abduction occurred on Friday night, and by Saturday, the kidnappers had contacted the victims’ families, demanding a ₦100 million ransom for their release, according to sources familiar with the case.
Ransom Demand and Ongoing Rescue Operation
A source who spoke on condition of anonymity confirmed the ransom demand, stating:
“Three people were kidnapped on Friday night in Mpape, including a Defence Headquarters official, Lt. Akor. The kidnappers have already reached out to their families and are demanding ₦100 million for their release.”
Efforts to reach Maj. Gen. Markus Kangye, Director of Defence Media Operations, and Brig. Gen. Tukur Gusau, Director of Defence Information, for comments were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
Meanwhile, the Federal Capital Territory Police Command confirmed that an investigation was underway. The command’s spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, stated:
“I will confirm and get back to you shortly.”
However, security operatives, including police officers and military troops, have already begun a joint rescue operation to locate and secure the victims.
“The operation to rescue her and others has started and is ongoing. Police and soldiers are already on it,” a security source disclosed.
Authorities have assured the public that efforts are intensifying to bring the victims back safely while tracking down the perpetrators.
